Type 98 So-Da Armoured carrier (Japanese)

Description The Type 98 So-Da was an armored personnel and ammunition carrier used by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. Developed in 1937 and introduced in 1941, the So-Da was based on the chassis of the Type 97 Te-Ke tankette. Its design featured the engine compartment at the front, which was a departure from the typical rear-engine layout of many armoured vehicles of the time. The So-Da was a fully tracked vehicle with a weight of 5 tons, a length of 3.8 meters, a width of 1.9 meters, and a height of 1.6 meters. It was powered by a diesel engine producing 65 horsepower, allowing it to reach speeds of up to 45 km/h. The vehicle’s armour ranged from 6 to 12 mm, providing basic protection against small arms fire. Primarily used as a personnel and ammunition carrier, the So-Da could also function as an artillery tractor, towing gun trailers. Its open-top design with a flatbed at the rear allowed for easy loading and unloading of cargo.
