Type 100 Te-Re Artillery observation vehicle (Japanese)

Description The Type 100 Te-Re was an artillery observation vehicle used by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. Developed in 1940, it was based on the chassis of the Type 97 Te-Ke tankette. The Te-Re was designed to support artillery units by providing accurate reconnaissance and target spotting for self-propelled guns (SPGs) and stationary artillery. The vehicle was powered by a diesel engine, producing 65 horsepower, and could reach speeds of up to 40 km/h. It had a crew of six to eight men and was equipped with a large radio, observation equipment, and a cable reel. The rear compartment, typically used for cargo or troops in other vehicles, was dedicated to the spotters and radio operators. The Te-Re’s armour was relatively light, with a maximum thickness of 6 mm, providing basic protection against small arms fire. Between 100 and 150 units of the Te-Re were produced, and they were primarily used in the Second Sino-Japanese War and World War II. The vehicle’s role was crucial in relaying target information to artillery positions, allowing for more accurate and effective fire support.
