*Imperial German, WWI (1914–1916), Trench Art Bronze Mortar with “Durch Krieg zum Sieg” (Through War to Victory) Inscription* A finely made example of Imperial German First World War trench art cast in the form of a miniature mortar barrel, modelled and turned from solid bronze or gunmetal. The piece features a flared muzzle and twin trunnions, with a textured central band cast in relief with the patriotic inscription “Durch Krieg zum Sieg” (“Through War to Victory”) and the dates “1914–1916”. Measuring approximately 11 cm high, 12.3 cm across the muzzle, and 7.5 cm across the base, the piece has a rich, untouched patina with traces of original machining visible to the interior and underside. Such “victory mortars” were often produced by German soldiers in field workshops or from recovered battlefield materials. The inscription reflects the confidence and propaganda tone of the early war years, when “victory through war” remained a popular slogan before the later years of stalemate. *Condition*Excellent overall condition for age, with light oxidation and surface wear consistent with age and material. The raised lettering remains clear and well-defined, and the bronze surface retains an attractive natural tone. Please see photographs as part of the condition report. RQMAOOXAGE_7172217836
